Bleacher Reconstruction Update - February 12

I happened to be driving by the ballpark Saturday afternoon about 3:15.

No, really. I was on my way to pick up Mark at a friend's house, and the ballpark just happened to be in between my house and the friend's.

Who do I see standing on the east side of Sheffield, in the snow, with his camera? Why, it was David, intrepid photographer. There was too much traffic to stop and say hi, but he sent me these twelve photos from a snowy Saturday afternoon.

The timeline has also been updated.

Top: top of the new left-center field section; New brick wall being built, on the left field side; New "batter's eye" restaurant area, viewed from Waveland; Left field, looking west.

Middle: New brick wall, in left field; New brick wall, in right field; Right field, view looking south; View of new "batter's eye" restaurant, from Sheffield

Bottom: New "batter's eye" restaurant, viewed from Sheffield; Right field area, between the original stands and the new "bleacher box" section; Closeup of the "knothole" gate, in the right field corner; The "knothole" gate area, in the right field corner

Just admit it, Al

I have the feeling that if you were on your way to the South Pole, you'd just happen to find Wrigley Field was along your way...

Well...
... it'd only be a SHORT detour...

Knothole
I'm not too wild about the idea of the brick wall inside the park being broken up by chainlink fence where the knothole will be.  Maybe if they use green chainlink it won't look bad but if the only reason for it is for people walking by on the way to a concession stand to see the game for a second, I don't get the thinking.  And from the last I heard this week, that's about all they're planning it to be.  Not even a picnic area like the old Comiskey.  Pointless change.

Knothole
I think the knothole is about the 280 days the Cubs aren't playing games.  It seems rather cool that people will be able to look into the park when the team isn't playing.

Whether it's someone walking to/from the train or a tourist who wants to take a quick look at the ballpark, it seems like a cool addition.

Did anyone see the daily herald article?

Seems like they covered an entirely different press conference than Paul 'I must start a controvesy' Sullivan from the Chicago Tribune.

Keep in mind...
... that what was there before the chain-link fence, were two metal doors. So it might actually look better than it did.

I hope the Cubs will put at least some padding on the fence.

Come on . . .
It's been at least 20 minutes since we've gotten updated pictures on here.
What's the holdup, Al? I need to see me some Wrigley Field!

LOL!
Wish I had time to do that every day.
