Bleacher Reconstruction Update - February 6

David went by the ballpark on Sunday morning, and these photos do answer at least one of the questions you raised last time -- it does appear that the steel has been painted white, although these photos seem to indicate that the paint job is only as high as the brick wall. Perhaps the rest will be painted white later, after the rest of the job is finished.

The timeline has also been updated.

Top: Looking north on Sheffield; closer view of same showing steel painted white; underneath RF bleachers showing concrete being laid; closeup underneath RF walkway. Note wires coming from underneath walkway for lighting fixtures to be installed.

Middle: RF brick wall, just south of the entrance area; underneath CF; wider view of previous photo; view of entire LF structure

Bottom: Another view underneath CF; RF corner taken from Addison L station

Love the shot...
from the el station. Now, have one of you guys thought of a shot on top of one of the foul poles ? Just kidding, although now that I think of it......
ya know steve, I just don't get it. Here's a guy who's born and raised in the Dominican Republic, and he loses the ball in the sun !!

The other thing I noticed...
... about the shot from the L stop, is that all the pads on the wall down the LF line have been removed.

I assume they're just being replaced.

Pads
In photo 1224e it appears that the RF corner pads were also taken down. It may be due to the construction, but I'm fairly certain the Cubs normally store those pads during the winter, to minimize wear-and-tear, mildew, etc.

Knothole?
Is that the knothole in the last picture of the top row?
THANKS again for the pics! Best thing on the web this winter!

Thanks!
No, that's not the knothole. You can, in fact, see a bit of the knothole in the last picture, the one from the L stop.

Comparison
For comparison sake, take the second picture from the first set (1004b) and compare it to the first picture from the newest set(0205a). The angles are fairly similiar and you can get an an idea of how far this project has really gone.

Looks good
These pictures really show how well this project is coming together. When I see the brick wall it really makes me think that the final project will be first class. (those of us who sit in the grandstand are starting to wonder when our upgrade is gonna come!)

Great work on the pics David and Al, keep up the good work.

Thanks!
The Cubs have gotten very lucky this winter with the nice weather, which has allowed them to proceed with this project without any weather-related delays.

I have no doubt they'll be finished in plenty of time for Opening Day.

The old bricks....
Any indication that any of the old bricks being reused? I haven't seen it in any of the pictures.

by cubfanindy on Feb 6, 2006 5:58 PM CST up reply actions

None whatsoever...
... as far as I can tell from seeing the wall up close. They're all new bricks.

Sone good aerial shots there, though. From the end of January.
