Sean Gallagher Promoted

According to Baseball America, Sean Gallagher has been promoted to AA West Tennessee.  Gallagher was 4-0 with a 2.30 ERA for Daytona in 78 innings this year.

Interesting to see if Gallagher has continued success in AA.  If so, Gallagher's ETA may be moved up dramatically to possibly contending for a starting spot in the rotation as early as mid-next year.

BA has a Q & A with Gallagher which notes that he has picked up some velocity where he reports that he now sits in the 90-93 range as opposed to 89-91 that he was at last season.

Here is the Q & A with BA...

Baseball America seems to be warming up
to the guy they described earlier this year thusly:  His fastball is fringe average, and while some guys liked his curveball, others said it was an average and loopy pitch that overmatched MWL hitters because he could locate it.

Good for Gallagher.  Hope he continues to roll through AA and becomes the next West Tenner to make an impact on the big club.

when a guy without projectability
gainst a few MPH on his fringe average fastball, it's unexpected.

I was hoping this would happen...
... I'd imagine Gallagher will be placed on the 40-man roster this offseason, and be given some time in major league spring training in 2007.

That said, he will NOT be ready for the majors in 2007. But he has dominated each level he has pitched at so far; let's see how he does in Double-A now.

however he is getting the outs, he is moving along
Gallagher's WHIP was not extraordinary, but if he throws strikes, changes speeds, locates he will get the outs. This is what the minors are about, seeing where the wall is.

In any case he passed Grant Johnson, Veal and Holliman, now is starting next to Pignatiello, Shaver, Mateo, Brownlie....let us see what the future bodes for Sean.

impressive interview
Gallagher really sounds like he knows what he's doing.  He sounds like he puts alot of thought into his pitching, his development, and his preparation.

I'm impressed with these young Cub arms.

Marshall has been impressive, especially considering his lack of experience in the Minors.  And if it's true that Marmol is as persistent with his questioning of Greg Maddux as has been reported, then it seems like the Cubs have a number of guys with good arms and good sense.  This is very encouraging.

With Zambrano anchoring the rotation (and he's still very young), we could have some really solid guys for a long time-- Zambrano, Marshall, Marmol, etc.

Great...
now all they need to do is promote Jake Fox to AA.

by CosmicCharlie911 on Jun 13, 2006 5:32 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

totally agree
Fox is dominating and is old relative to league at Daytona.  Currently, Jose Reyes and Tony Richie are playing catcher at West Tennessee, none of which are doing so successfully.

It would certainly make sense to move him up.

One thing I missed last week was that Grant Johnson was placed on the DL.

Perhaps the Barrett suspension
will be a blessing in disguise. Soto moves up to the bigs, and a catcher at each minor-league level moves up a spot for an eight- to ten-game audition. It could be Fox's chance to prove he has the chops for AA.

I'll look for him in the last week of July
and give you all some pics and a report (if he's still with West Tenn by then).

Buster Olney said a few days ago that the Braves would entertain offers for their 26 year old shortstop (who makes 450k) Yunel Escobar. He is a plus bat, a solid defender, and would move Theriot to his more appropriate position at second.

They are looking for a bat in return. Apparently Cox doesn't like the guy.

I couldn't even speculate what we'd have to send them in return, but I think he would be a good fit given his low salary, his productive bat, his position, and his age. I don't care if he's a jerk if he makes the team win more.

What would it take?
