Portrait Of Wrigley Field On A Random January Saturday

So here I sit, racking my brains for new material while we are waiting for the Bears to win the Super Bowl and then for pitchers and catchers to report...

... and what drops into my inbox but some ballpark photos, taken by intrepid BCB photographer David this afternoon. They've begun ripping up the sidewalk at the corner of Addison & Sheffield to begin installing the personalized brick pavers. David also snapped a photo on Waveland, where they've put in some bricks near gates J & K. This work doesn't appear to be finished -- and I wish they'd go ahead and get rid of those ugly concrete slabs.

Three views of the brick paver area; view of the north wall of the park on Waveland, looking east. You can also see the covered-up CF bleachers in this shot; they are replacing the wood/fiberglass benches in CF.

the concrete slabs
is there enough time to get rid of 'em this year Al? I hope so. They is friggin ugly. Nice iron-wrought stuff would look much better.

It sure would.
But given that it's late January and they haven't touched the concrete slabs, I suspect we're stuck with them for at least another year.

concrete slabs
Have we heard any announcement about this from the Cubs? I know it was brought up a few years ago, when the bleacher plan was originally announced, but I didn't know if the elimination of the slabs was something that got an announcement, or if it was something that was just going to happen, like the work this winter shown in the 4th picture
What exactly are they doing in the left field corner, do we know anything other than what is shown in the last picture?

I think...
... the slab removal was supposed to happen when the building with the restaurant, etc. was put up this winter. Of course, that didn't happen.

I cannot figure out what they're doing in the LF corner. The brickwork is new, and clearly, something is going in behind those wooden boards -- those are new holes cut in the doors. But what it is, I have no idea.

Are you sure
that the CF bleacher seats are being replaced?

There was an article on cubs.com or the trib recently that said the covered area in CF was simply a shelter for workers, and that no work was actually being done up there.

Thanks.
I missed that article. I have heard that they were replacing the CF benches, but maybe that's not this offseason.

Still one of the most beautiful
man-made places in the country inside and one of the ugliest outside.  Bring down the slabs!
