Lou Considering Putting Marmol As Our Closer

It would move Marmol to the closer role and Dempster to the starting rotation.

Real Bad.
Ryan Dempster cannot start. He is a terrible starting pitcher. I love Marmol's stuff and think he could become a pretty good closer, probably better than Dempster though maybe not right away, but if it means putting Demp in the rotation then theres no point because we wont have the lead in games that Dempster starts.

Make Marshall the 5th starter. MAYBE make Marmol the closer or trade for a reliable guy thats available.

Glenallen Hill hit that ball 600 feet.

Demptser has trouble pitching ONE inning
...why would you call upon him to pitch SIX plus?  I have a vivid imagination, but trying to picture Ryan Dempster succeed in the rotation baffles me to the point that my eyes roll around in my sockets like a slot machine.

Now, if we had a real stud who makes himself impossible to ignore because his stuff is so great, that would force an issue...but Marmol?  I like him and all, but he doesn't fit that description.

ugh
demspter's been bad twice this year and good the rest of the games...

oh and handing the closer's role to a guy that struggles with command and has very very little major league experience... when everyone's calling to blow up the team every time the bullpen lets one get away

wow i didnt think Lou would be this stupid

Dempster will become
a starter. Just had it on the post game show on CSN. They talked to Dempster and he said he's excited.

wasnt dempster
a rookie of the year with the reds or something like that before he had tommy john surgery?

Dempster...
wasn't a rookie of the year, but he was great for a year with the Marlins in 2000.  But as a starter, here are his numbers:
  1. 7.08 ERA (54 IP)
  2. 4.71 ERA (147 IP)
  3. 3.66 ERA (226.1 IP)
  4. 4.94 ERA (211.1 IP)
  5. 5.38 ERA (209 IP)
  6. 6.54 ERA (115.2 IP)
Aside from his very strong 2000, he was very hittable and he had control problems, resulting in WHIP consistently above 1.50.

horrible idea
to put Dempster in rotation; is he trying to pull a Braden Looper?

Just off Rotoworld
Ryan Dempster said after Sunday's game that he would be joining the rotation, then met with manager Lou Piniella and told the media 30 minutes later that he'd be remaining in the bullpen.
So, we're not the only ones who can't figure out what is going on in Chicago. It looks like Dempster will continue to close for now, but this idea of putting him in the rotation is a legitimate threat. If it happens, he'd lose almost all of his value. We thought the same thing about Jason Marquis, of course, but Dempster really would be a lousy bet as a starting pitcher.

good, but do you think he will be a mentor for Marmol or Guzman to be the closer later

Considering Marmol as "our" closer?
Is this Henry Blanco?
Rich Hill - 2007 - 18-5 (33 starts) - 2.75 ERA, 219 IP, 239 K's, 1.21 WHIP
