There is ...

I may move this link to the very top of the site tomorrow, or later tonight if I have time.

I actually think you can vote
more than 25 times. I must have voted close to fifty times.

Same here
I've voted at least 50 times and it just lets me keep going and going and going.  Wonder if they've got something screwed up on their site.

don't vote for him!
fuck the allstar game. I like seeing our players get rest instead.

I would be especially unhappy if one of the cubs was participating in the homerun derby.

Me too...
but Z didn't pitch last year so I'm going to try and help give him a chance. I don't think he's doing the homerun derby so he'll handle the asg.

Nice to see you're back. I actually thought about you when I read something at ACB two days ago. I can't remember what it was, but I was like 'Where's TD?'

Agreed...
...the best thing in the world would be for Zambrano to take a nice three day vacation.  I love him, and he's an All Star in my mind, but I'd rather not have Tony LaRussa making decisions on when/how to use him...Tony's dirty enough to pitch Z for 8 innings.

The Real Question Is -
Will Barrett vote for him?

Although I wouldn't
complain if  Zambrano made the team....I have a hard time agreeing with him making it over Brandon Webb or Chris Young.

Yes, he's turned things around of late, but I really believe Webb/Young have had much better seasons overall.

by talkingcubs on Jul 2, 2007 8:02 AM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I don't know...
how Chris Young didn't make it before this. His year has been ridiculous. I don't see why LaRussa didn't pick him besides that he's being nice to Derrek. I have a hard time not voting for Z, but Chris Young is the most deserving guy on there. Unfortunately, he had to fight with one of my favorite players in Lee.

Rest is good, and the chip on his shoulder for not making it would be even better.

VOTE WEBB!

The guy gets to rest all winter. He thrives on work. Let him pitch, I say.

I must admit...
...I'm conflicted about this, too.

From a team pride perspective, I obviously want to see as many Cubs as possible on the all-star team. And though Big Z may not technically deserve to go given some of his stats, he's clearly an "all-star" in the intangible sense of the word.

On the other hand, does everyone remember the "Joey Cora Fungo Bat Incident" from last year? (I still can't believe Z wasn't hurt worse.)

Moreover, potential injuries aside, the thought of Big Z pitching in that kind of atmosphere -- given his megalomania -- doesn't thrill me either. What if he ends up walking a bunch of guys? What if he gets lit up? How will that affect his confidence in the second half?

I dunno...I'll probably throw a couple of votes Big Z's way but secretely hope he doesn't make it. Nothing is more important than staying in contention.

Don't vote for him!!
He can use the rest for big 2nd half and will be pitching 2X this week...A-Ram deserves it more from Cubs anyway, Zambrano was a bust the first month and a half, the Cubs worst starter.

Surprised Lee made it given lack of HR and RBI...hope he doesn't turn into another Gracie power-wise.

Who's our first-half MVP?? I vote A-Ram, Sori and DeRosa among everydays, Marquis, Z and Wuertz among pitchers. Marmol comin on tho watch for him 2nd half and in '08!!

by writerinwrigley on Jul 2, 2007 10:12 AM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Originally...
... the Cubs had said they might adjust the rotation for this week to give Z a chance to pitch in the ASG. With last week's off day he COULD have started today, again on Saturday, and then would easily have been able to throw an inning on Tuesday.

However, Ted Lilly is still listed as today's starter, which means Z would pitch tomorrow and Sunday. That's not enough rest to pitch Tuesday.

If that's the case, let him rest (though I did throw some votes his way and will keep the link up) and start the 2nd half on Friday on normal rest.

I agree about ARam...
...it's just dead wrong that he isn't an All-Star. And I'd definitely name him the Cubs first-half All-Star. Even with the injury, the guy has just done it all. If anything, his absence from the lineup while he was hurt just further emphasized his value to this team.

ARam = All-Star

No way
Zambrano does not deserve to be an all-star and will not get my vote.

re: No way
As he explains in this article, Phil Rogers agrees with you.

I think, based on his last four to five starts, as well as his (for lack of a better term) "leadership skills" and previous seasons' performances, he deserves to be an all-star. But, as I said, I won't be weeping in my Cheerios if he doesn't make it. I'd rather see him get the rest.

If you consider
previous seasons (which I don't think you should) then the case gets stronger.  As for leadership skills, you lose me there.  Either way, his performance in the first half overall has been so lousy I don't see how he can be considered.  He's probably the least deserving starter on the Cubs staff.

by cubsbak on Jul 2, 2007 12:19 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

He might deserve
to be an All-Star, but not nearly as much as Chris Young or Brandon Webb.

by talkingcubs on Jul 2, 2007 12:46 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Does he deserve it?
Record-wise, maybe. 9-6 is pretty good. But the ERA over 4 doesn't really get him there, considering how many NL starters still have ERAs under 3. But if he pitches very well in his two starts prior to the ASG and gets his ERA down under 4, and has 10 or 11 wins, then he's an all star in my estimation.

How can you vote for this guy.
He has whined about his contract all year instead of playing good baseball.  He stunk it up for the first two months when he should have been leading this team.  He then beats up HIS OWN TEAMMATE... yes, his OWN TEAMMATE... over a blown play which scored runs partially because of his own poor pitching.

I don't care if Barrett sucks.  He's your teammate for goodness sake.  You don't go physically assaulting him.  What the hell kind of message does this send out??

He sits there trashing the Brewers who are currently in first place saying they are worse than the Reds?!  Maybe he should learn to shut the hell up and play the game.  Maybe if he did so he'd be getting that contract he feels he deserves.

I'm sorry, but I find it incredibly hard to sympathize with a whining bully who isn't even that good and who bitches about making over $3 million/year for throwing a ball.

Screw this guy.  He is a poor sportsman and a head case.  I personally still wish the Cubs management would be smart enough to trade him while his value is high.  I absolutely don't think this guy has any business getting into the all star game.

Personally, I think Jason Marquis or Rich Hill have a much more legitimate claim.

by nickler on Jul 2, 2007 3:02 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

One good month
does not an all-star make. Chris Young deserves to go, and Z deserves not to go for 3 reasons:
  1. His first 2 months were horrible.
  2. He beat up a teammate
  3. He lobbied Lou to change his place in the rotation so he could pitch in the all-star game BEFORE he made the all-star team.
Plus I'd rather he not pitch in between starts and mess up his schedule. We need to keep him healthy so we can trade him for a lot before he walks after the season.
