It's That Time Of Year Again

What time?

Ticket wristband time!

As of 3 pm, there was no line at all for wristbands -- they were moving everyone through quite quickly. If you want a ticket wristband, enter through gate K on Waveland across from the firehouse. Wristband hours are until 10 pm tonight, and from 7 am to 10 pm tomorrow. You have to have two forms of ID with you (one a major credit card, but you don't necessarily have to use that card to buy tickets).

There's a gift shop open if you feel the uncontrollable urge to buy a Fukudome jersey (they have them). I didn't stop, but there were some people in there.

You'll get a ticket order form which explains all the rules for the sale on Friday morning.

UPDATE [2008-2-20 16:53:51 by Al]: This is just a reminder, and a note for those new here, that once we get going with spring training and the season, I will make posts in the Ticket Exchanges section for people who want to buy or sell tickets (face value only, please). There's a post there for spring training tickets already. I try to keep this one homestand at a time so there aren't requests and sales all over the place. Thanks for understanding.

UPDATE [2008-2-21 11:30:10 by Al]: As of 9:30 this morning, there was still no line for wristbands. I'll be making a post early tomorrow morning with the winning wristband number and so you can all have a place to bitch about the VWR.

Nope. No decades-old magazines and torn-up carpeting, not till Friday.

Couple of questions
I didn't want to start a whole new thread.
Is it correct that on Friday I can only purchase tickets for 1 game?
Also, can I get tickets by phone and purchase tickets in the VWR on the same day for different games.
Coming to Chicago for 1,2, and 3rd of August weekend with the Bucs, got the airline tix and hotel reservations just need to complete the trifecta, Any responses would be helpful. Thanks

Thanks AL
to say that I am anxious is an understatement, Just want to get tickets in hand.
Yes, I have looked at the MLB page before, just pinging my ass off right now.

Sorry
Also where to get good seats for 4, behind home plate second deck, how are those. Been to Wrigley four times, last in 1996, first time with the whole family, Thanks again.

Those are my favorite seats
Not cheap, but right in front of the press box is a fantastic view.  Should be great in August.
Free the upper deck!

I wish everyone luck...
...in getting tickets to the game that they seek in a timely fashion.  For the Red Sox this year, I had to sit in the VWR for 5 hours (adding an extra browser window every 15 minutes or so, finished with 16-20 of them open) just to pick through the remaining single seats for weekend games.  I will do the VWR thing again to get Mets-Cubs tickets at Shea whenever single game tickets go on sale for those dates in September (date still has not been announced due to Santana promotions for season tickets).

Winning wristband # on Friday will be 14370...
...because I have 14369.

Got mine about an hour ago - no line at all.  I was in and out in about as long as a Soriano at-bat.  As opposed to Friday, when a session in the Virtual Waiting Room will seem as long as a Trachsel start...

here's a ?
Does the person who gets the wristband today or tomorrow have to be the one who goes to Wrigley and gets the tickets on Fri? (Assuming a good number...)

And the Verdict is?
What name was on the back of those fukudome jerseys?

Kosuke

or

Fukudome

I'm just curious as to what the final word is on the back of his jersey

Fukudome
This was confirmed by the Koh-skay Foo-koo-DOUGH-may himself not long after he signed.

Question on Ticket Exchange
Al - is there anyway that we could create some sort of spreadsheet that can be updated online for people that either have extra tickets or need tickets for all games this season.  I already know that I have a lot of extra bleacher seats for weekend games that I would be willing to part with for face value or trade for another game that I don't have.  This would be nice for out of towners also who want to make ticket arrangements in advance.  If this is something that you would be willing to consider, I would be willing to donate my time for development.  I am not sure exaclty what rules you are bound by but I already have a few ideas on how this could work.  Let me know!

by 1060 W Addison on Feb 20, 2008 6:17 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

I know Google Docs
Now has the option where you can create a form that will auto-populate a spreadsheet.  Maybe it's possible a tech-savvy bored BCB'er can create something for us.

I second this Al!!
I posted the diary earlier about having tickets for sale without knowing about the ticket exchange section.  Sorry about that.

I don't live in Chicago, so unless I have time mail the tickets and receive payment, I won't get to use the exchange.  Any advice?

by nmrudge on Feb 20, 2008 9:01 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Let me think about this.
First, I will try to get ticket threads for specific homestands up earlier than last year so people have extra time both to buy and sell.

If there's anyone who can create such a spreadsheet (those things make my eyes glaze over), email me and we can set it up.

Demo
Al - I will take a look at this over the weekend and come up with a Proof of Concept for you to review.  I don't think it will be too over the top for now but there would be an opportunity to add features as we see fit.  I will email you the details.

Great!
Thanks for doing this. I'll look forward to seeing what you come up with.

Hey Al...
...now that Athletics Nation seems to have gotten its makeover, can you spill any of the beans about BCB's?

by cwyers on Feb 20, 2008 6:38 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Holy Crap!
That's pretty slick.  I hope it doesn't slow BCB down during the game threads, or make things any more cluttered.  We'll have to see how it all plays out.

OK, so you guys found it.
Yes, that's what BCB will look like. We have had a "blogger beta" since mid-January, playing around with various things on this new format, which is still considered a "beta" platform, as you can see if you look around AN. The tech people have been really helpful and proactive in listening to reader comments about the new format.

I don't have a specific date yet but I am going to be working with the tech folks within the next 2-3 weeks. When we have a specific date & time nailed down for the transition, I'll make a post about it.

honestly
I'm going to depend on buying tickets day of game, or through here.  I got to go to three or four games late last year to do that.  Even got to see that great game against the Reds in September.  Great game.

Dang
That AN site is blocked by my company. I sure hope BCB's new site isn't blocked. Any reason why?

I honestly don't know how I'll get through the season without BCB throughout my work day. My god, I may have to work!

The SBN tech folks are aware of this issue.
It's being worked on. I'll keep you posted.

is blocked by my work server.  But none of the other SB nation sites are...weird.

Maybe the server here just hates the Brewers

Buying Tix on Saturday
Does anyone know what time the box office will be open on Saturday and whether they will still be going through the wristband line at that point? I was thinking I could show up Saturday morning and not wait hours to buy tickets. Is that realistic?

by ms9av on Feb 21, 2008 9:56 AM CST reply actions   0 recs

Yes and no.
The box office will open at 9 am on Saturday. However, by then a lot of the prime games will be sold out.

You don't need a wristband on Saturday -- they are only used on Friday. So yes, you can go there on Saturday, but your selection will be less than on Friday.

Thanks
Yeah, I'll just have to sort through the remains. Hopefully some early and late season games will be left. But the oddities of this year's schedule (only 20 home games in June and July!) may preclude that.

Ticket Exchange suggestion
Al - can you make it so that when you post the Ticket Exchange diary for each homestand, that it appears on the front page as well? I think one reminder on the front page per homestand wouldn't be too distracting.

Without giving too much away....
... this will be doable once we migrate to SBN 2.0.
