MLive.com's Scott Warheit passes along a report from Detroit's 97.1 FM that the Tigers have offered reliever Jose Valverde a two-year deal worth $12 to $14 million. That follows up Jon Paul Morosi's assertion that the Tigers are really the only option left for Valverde, as neither the Cubs, Pirates, nor Diamondbacks are apparently interested.

Outside of 2007, the guy has performed consistently well, including in the AL West. He pitched terrifically for the Marlins in 67 appearances last season. If Matt Palmer really does become #5 in the rotation, Calero - with his devastating slider - would make a good fit in the pen, and probably would come cheap.
