No Expanded Replay This Postseason, Says Bud

A couple of the quotes from Bud in this link are mindboggling: "We're analyzing things," Selig said. "Our committee said we need to study it more, maybe have a few more months of study. But from the numbers that I heard, of the controversial tough plays, they got something like 98 percent right." Study what more? That umpires are getting calls wrong? That 2% of controversial calls are wrong? Way too many. Oh, and: "We'll continue to look at it. I'm not going to say no," he said. "Baseball is a game of pace, and there's no question it's a game of pace, and therefore one has to be very sensitive." Right. Because the pace of games is speeded up when managers have five-minute arguments, instead of having a replay get the call right in 30 seconds. I keep hoping that a bad call will go against the Yankees in this year's postseason and maybe directly cost them a game. Then we'd get replay.

Maybe it's time to replace the All-Star Game with something different.

As Jim Joyce said in his postgame comments, there is no dispute that last night's game should have ended differently. While the human element has always been an integral part of baseball, it is vital that mistakes on the field be addressed. Given last night's call and other recent events, I will examine our umpiring system, the expanded use of instant replay and all other related features. Before I announce any decisions, I will consult with all appropriate parties, including our two unions and the Special Committee for On-Field Matters, which consists of field managers, general managers, club owners and presidents.

Bud Selig's Press Conference. It will not be ruled a perfect game, however, Bud will "examine" the use of instant replay. Yeah right.
