August 19: No-Hitter Anniversary

Today (8/19) is the anniversary of two significant no-no's in Cubs history: 1965, they were no-hit by Jim Maloney of the Reds, the last no-hitter thrown against the Cubs at Wrigley and the only CG 10-inning no-hitter in MLB history, and 1969, Ken Holtzman's first no-no vs. the Braves. Holtzman shared some memories of his career with me for this post at SB Nation Chicago.

In 1984, the Chicago Cubs captured the hearts and minds of Chicago sports fans. Even though they fell short of winning the World Series, the team left an indelible mark on a generation of Cubs fans who remember hearing Van Halen's "Jump" open WGN telecasts.
