Bloggers Luncheon with Jim Hendry

I thought this was pretty interesting. With the media not around, you get to hear the true side of Jim Hendry. He gives his honest opinion, on Prior, Wood, Farnsworth, Jones and many others. As for the offseason moves he said he would like to make two "significant moves" before Spring Training. He also wants to add a right handed back up OF to play with Pie or Fuld. But says only one of Pie or Fuld will make the 25 man roster.I think some may be surprised what they read

Astros sign Kazuo Matsui

Bruce Levine is reporting that the Astros signed Matsui to a 3 year deal.

I know the Cubs think adding another middle infielder who's a lefty and has good speed is a must this offseason. So I'm kinda scared to see who they will add now. I didn't mind the idea of getting Matsui, but now that he signed with the Astros I won't lose any sleep over not getting him. I just hope that we don't add a player who's worse then Matsui.

Cubs to pursue Cristian Guzman if they miss out on Matsui

I got this from Mlb4u.com, and I think they got it from Buster Olney.

"Cristian Guzman, SS--Washington Nationals: The Cubs could pursue a trade for him if they fail to sign Kaz Matsui.

It seems like Hendry and Piniella think it's very important to have a lefthanded hitter who can play second and short with some speed. Honestly I would rather they sign Matsui, because I still think he has some upside, if he could ever stay healthy. Cristian Guzman is a faster verison of Neifi Perez. The Cubs must not think OBP is a important for a bench player/spot starter in the infield. Being a lefthanded hitter with speed seems to be what their after. If were gonna make a trade with the Nationals for lefthanded middle infielder, I would rather the Cubs try to trade for Felipe Lopez. But he would probably cost alot more talent in return then Guzman.(who the Nationals should be willing to dump for nothing)
