Here is a screen shot of the fake Jumbotron that TBS created in Wrigley. I don't know...I guess I'm an old fogey. I don't like this at all. I was just wondering what the rest of you think.

WGN will rebroadcast no-hitter
I heard this mentioned on the WGN news last night and I have not seen it posted here (and if it was and I missed it, I figured a new post would help people find this easier). WGN will rebroadcast the Zambrano no-hitter on Friday at 10 PM. They said it will be on both WGN locally and the Superstation. With this advance notice, everyone will now have a chance to set their DVR's to capture this game for posterity.

Cubs Biggest Nightmare?
In it, I think he talks about what some of us have been secretly dreading...What happens if the Cubs and Sox play in the series. Personally, the 2 annual series are always pretty hard on me. I dread every game they play together and hope upon hope that the Cubs come out on top. With all the back and forth between fans of either team...to play the Sox and if 1906 repeats itself and the favored Cubs lose to the Sox, it would be worse than 2005.
I don't know. Maybe it's just that little nagging voice that prevents me from even trying to calculate the magic number and was watching to see when we went over 81 wins to ensure a .500 season (and when we made 82 wins, celebrated that)that makes me a bit nervous, but this column just hit a nerve with me.

Marquis the roadblock in TTTSNBN??
This has to be a joke...right? I don't know which is the bigger joke...the assumption that the O's would want Marquis or the assumption that the Cubs want to hang on to him.
The Chicago Cubs are still hoping to land Baltimore second baseman Brian Roberts, but they're reluctant to include righthander Jason Marquis in a deal.

Looks Like Wood going to the DL,,,
http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/cs-080720-kerry-wood-dl-chicago-cubs-blister,0,3227734.story
HOUSTON - The blister on Kerry Wood's right index finger is likely to send him to the disabled list for the 12th time in his career.
"We're coming to the point where we're going to have to come to a conclusion about what to do," manager Lou Piniella said Sunday.
Wood hasn't pitched since July 11, so the Cubs can backdate him on the DL to July 12, meaning he can return Sunday against Florida at Wrigley Field.
That means Carlos Marmol will assume the closer's role in Arizona and for most of the four-game series against the Marlins. Marmol pitched a perfect ninth Sunday with a seven-run lead after being booed at Wrigley Field last week when he blew a five-run lead in the ninth inning.
I sure hope Marmol has turned it back around after his All Star game performance. THis does bring up the question of who is going to replace Marmol as the set-up guy?

1st bid for Wrigley Field is in
http://www.suntimes.com/business/1061331,wrigley071708.article
(Sorry if this has already been posted elsewhere - I'm having major problems viewing BCB today and I tried to seach to see if it was and could not find it elsewhere)
A leading Chicago-area real estate firm has submitted an offer to buy Wrigley Field, betting that lease payments from the Chicago Cubs and eventual improvements to the ballpark will make it a decent investment.
Sources said Thursday that Inland Real Estate Group of Companies Inc., based in Oak Brook, has turned in the offer to Cubs owner Tribune Co. The amount of the offer couldn’t be learned, but it is believed to be close to $300 million, the sum Tribune Chairman Sam Zell wants out of Wrigley if he sells the team and the property separately.
Edit:I just reread the article and this is for Wrigley Field only. Maybe Zell will get his wish and get Wrigley and the Cubs sold seperately and try to maximize his profits on the sale. He doesn't have to deal with MLB to sell Wrigley...he could sell that to anyone. The team on the other hand need MLB approval.

I made it on TV! I took my daughter to the game on July 11th and we sat in the bleachers. After Ramierez hit his home run, we were shown on TV! Here is a screen capture of the shot. My daughter is holding the Go Cubs sign and I am to the left as you look at the picture. Of course, there is also Al, who is at the top of the picture with his head cut off and Jessica, who is in the yellow shirt bending over.

Why the Southtown-Star sometimes frustrates me...
From the Southtown-Star..
http://www.southtownstar.com/news/990882,060608lightning.article
via i32.tinypic.com
This is the same paper (when they were called the Daily Southtown) that had
a billboard campaign a few years ago with the saying
"A perfect day, The Sox win and the Cubs lose. People up north just don't get it"
I normally like this paper because they do report on more local stuff than the big Chicago dailies but when they do
stuff like this...I just don't know what to say.
