Open Thread: Cub Notes, ALCS Game 2, NLCS Game 1, Wednesday 10/12

NLCS: Astros vs. Cardinals, game 1. 7:20 CT, FOX

ALCS: Angels vs. White Sox, game 2. 7:20 CT, FOX (Angels lead series 1-0)

No, that's not a misprint: both games are at the same time. Here's the TV scoop: (FOX provides a split-national telecast of Game 2 of the ALCS and Game 1 of the NLCS. Areas of natural geographic interest receive ALCS Game 2 on their local FOX over-the-air broadcast affiliate, while a simultaneous live feed of NLCS Game 1 is available on FX. Those areas receiving NLCS Game 1 on FOX canwatch ALCS Game 2 on FX.)

(Italics added for that interesting phrase above)

Clear as mud, I know. So, it appears that the NLCS game is the "primary" game tonight, but if you live in Chicago or nearby, or southern California or nearby, you'll get the Angels/White Sox on broadcast TV, and the NLCS on FX.

"Check local listings", as they say. A couple of Cub notes: we have got to keep Nomar Garciaparra. Turns out he saved the lives of two women by diving into the water near Boston the other day. What a guy.

And, you may remember a year or so ago, Mark Prior was supposed to have an autograph/photo session at a shop in Naperville. He was accused of leaving early and not fulfilling his contract; as I recall it wound up being the day before his first start off one of his DL stints. Now, the store and Prior are suing and countersuing each other.

The way I read this story, this dispute is over $80,000. I can't imagine either Prior or the shop wants this to go to trial over that amount of money. I bet this gets settled out of court.

Finally, as many of you know, I am Jewish, and tonight is the holiest day on the Jewish calendar. I'm not that observant, but like Sandy Koufax did in the 1965 World Series, I won't be going to the game tonight. Neither will Sox owner Jerry Reinsdorf, from what I have been told.

It won't stop me from watching the game on TV after the service is over, though!

Discuss amongst yourselves.
