Open Thread: Cubs vs. Angels, Friday 3/25

Good news: Carlos Zambrano, getting set up for the Opening Day start, will throw today against the Anaheim, Azusa and Cucamonga Angels of Los Angeles.

Bad news: The Cubs may start the season with 12 pitchers, which, as I have often written, gives you less flexibility off the bench (particularly when one of those guys is named Macias), and not enough work for the bullpen.

Weird news: yesterday, this linescore/boxscore from Yahoo indicated that Renyel Pinto threw in the 7th inning. But look now: it says that Marco Scutaro's homer was off Pinto, but the boxscore says the pitcher was actually Carmen Pignatiello. That's what this boxscore from the Cubs website says, too.

Oh, well. You can see that spring training statkeeping is a bit more casual than it is during the season.

Kelvim Escobar throws for the Angels today.

Discuss amongst yourselves.
