Open Thread: Cubs vs. Mariners, Monday 3/28

I'm posting the thread in the morning for a game starting at 8 pm CT, because the Cubs are also hosting a Fan Fest this afternoon at Ho Ho Kam Park, and I'll be heading over there.

Among the highlights will be Q&A with Jim Hendry. That ought to be interesting.

Chuck at Ivy Chat, who's so quick to jump on any reason to panic, says this morning, citing the Tribune, Sun-Times and Daily Herald:

Mark Prior will start the season on the disabled list.

Well, that's not exactly true. Here, for example, is the direct quote from the Sun-Times:
Cubs officials privately acknowledged Sunday that it's possible Prior could begin the year on the DL.

(Emphasis added)

And here's what I think. So what? If, as the article goes on to say, he won't be ready to throw till the Pirate series, that means two missed starts. Sure, Prior could start this Saturday in Las Vegas. But why bother? Doing that only means you can't backdate a DL move.

Same thing with Kerry Wood, whose start has been moved back from Tuesday because:

Baker said Wood will start Wednesday against the Arizona Diamondbacks instead because he is scheduled to face the Brewers in the home opener April 8 at Wrigley Field.

Put on your tinfoil hats if you think something else is at work here.

Am I concerned? Sure. Worried? A little. Panicking? No way.

Glendon Rusch starts against Ryan Franklin tonight.

Discuss amongst yourselves.
