Open Thread: Cubs vs. Nationals, Friday 5/13

NEW YORK -- And you're saying, what the heck is Al doing in New York?

If you've been here a while, you know that I serve on the Eastern Directors Council of the Directors Guild of America. The council is meeting tomorrow morning here in New York, so here is where I am, while the Cubs take on the Nationals in DC. I see that Chris has posted a diary saying he'll be at the games, and so will Jeff, and so there will be plenty of first-hand impressions from the Cubs' first visit to Washington since August 10, 1899, the last year before 2005 that there was an NL team in Washington.

Meanwhile, since I'm here and free tonight, why not? I'm going to go to the Mets/Cardinals game at Shea. Will post a report on that game later.

Finally, I wanted to comment briefly on the item headlined "Contrary To Report, Baker To Stick With Hollandsworth In Left" posted over at CubsNet. In it, Jason takes Tribune writer Paul Sullivan to task for not revealing the source of his information that Jason Dubois was going to start in LF, implying that Sullivan was wrong.

Turns out, of course, that Sullivan was right, and in corresponding with him, he mentioned to me that he was upset over having a private e-mail posted on CubsNet -- and that further, he knew he was right even though no corroboration was published in the original article.

I have myself received at times, information from sources I trust. They have asked me to keep their confidence, and I have done so, and so I fully understand Paul Sullivan's position -- and that it could have been compromised by CubsNet.

Let's all just be a little more careful, shall we?

Anyway, here's tonight's pitching matchups in DC:
