Open Thread: Cubs vs. Astros, Wednesday 5/25

I was perusing the standings today when something jumped out at me.

The Cardinals are 18-4 within the NL Central, and 11-12 against everyone else -- and that includes 2-1 vs. the Royals in interleague play.

That 18-4 record has primarily been piled up against the bottom feeders of our division -- 12-2 vs. the Reds, Astros and Pirates. The Cubs have split their two games against St. Louis, and won't play them again till late July.

What this all means, I think, is that even though there is some schedule disparity between the Cubs and Cardinals, when the Cardinals play some of the better teams of the East and West, that their gaudy record won't be quite so gaudy -- and that's yet another reason that the Cubs also have to beat the bad teams that are in town this week, continuing tonight.

Reminder: tonight's game is at 6 pm CT, due to ESPN's coverage. Bet they thought they'd get a matchup of contending teams. Oh, well. At least they get to see a 300-game winner pitch:
