Open Thread: Cubs vs. Yankees, Saturday 6/18

NEW YORK -- Several days ago I sent "Five Questions" to my SportsBLOGS colleague John Amato at Pinstripe Alley.

He just got answers back to me -- says he's injured. Hey, who isn't these days?

Q: What's up with your $200 million team? Why aren't they blowing the competition away?

A: There's a lot of pressure playing in NY. The team has always been built on pitching and when they lost Petitte, Clemens and Wells that was a back breaker. This year they always seem to be playing three runs down and the offense has been pressing.

Q: Besides the obvious (Jason Giambi, Kevin Brown), who is the biggest disappointment on the Yankees this year and why?

A: Carl Pavano and Jaret Wright. Pavano hasn't used his fastball enough and as you saw last night is getting hit badly. Wright was shelled until he got hurt and a bad move from the getgo. Cashman admitted he made a big mistake not resigning Lieber.

Q: If you could do one thing and one thing only to change the Yankees' current roster to make them better, what would it be?

A: A big bat in the outfield. and probably would have signed Vladimir Guererro instead of Sheffield.

Q: Which Cubs hitters and pitchers do you fear facing this weekend?

A: Lee and Zambrano

Q: The other day, plans for a new Yankee Stadium were announced. Do you and other Yankee fans have a sentimental attachment to the old stadium? Or is it way past time for a replacement?

A: The old stadium was awesome. History. I think its time for a new one now. The fact that they are turning it into a museum is an excellent idea. I saw Mantle hit a ball off the 457 sign and only get a double. I saw DiMaggio in an oldtimers game and I was at Mickey Mantle Day.

Finally, the Daily Herald's Bruce Miles summed up very well in his column yesterday what moves the Cubs should make, and soon, if they are serious about contending.

Discuss amongst yourselves.
