Open Thread: Cubs vs. White Sox, Friday 6/24

LA GUARDIA AIRPORT, NEW YORK -- I'm waiting for my return flight to Chicago this morning, and upon landing will head home, then to the Cell for this afternoon's game.

Winning two of three is imperative. Fortunately, the Cubs don't have to face the White Sox' best pitcher, Mark Buehrle, in this series. Of course, they didn't have to face him in the last series, either.

ESPN's game and series preview lists no Cub starter for Sunday. That would be Jerome Williams' turn, but it is, of course, still possible for Mark Prior to be activated and go on Sunday -- against Jon Garland, former Cub farmhand who has been one of the best pitchers in the AL this year.

Sergio Mitre, starting today, needs to just keep doing what he has been doing, and hope the ground balls go at people. The Cubs couldn't touch Freddy Garcia in May at Wrigley Field -- maybe the second time around will help.
