Open Thread: Cubs vs. Marlins, Sunday 7/10

New, comments

A three-game winning streak and a sweep would be a VERY nice way to go into the All-Star break.

But it's not like I'm telling you something you don't already know.

Look at that 5.02 ERA for Greg Maddux -- and think positive thoughts, that you won't ever see it that high again.

Today's Starting Pitchers
Greg Maddux
G. Maddux
Cubs
vs. Al Leiter
A. Leiter
Marlins
7-6 W-L 3-6
5.02 ERA 6.31
69 SO 49
20 BB 55
16 HR 9

Other stuff: with Roy Halladay's unfortunate injury Friday night, former Cub Matt Clement has been named to the AL All-Star team as his replacement. Congrats to Matt.

And, for the first time ever, after 846 games, there was a 1-0 game at Coors Field last night, the Rockies beating the Padres. That's a record for the most number of games from the opening of a ballpark to its first 1-0 game.

Finally, David Wells is an idiot. Here's a quote from him regarding the Kenny Rogers situation:

Some guy's being aggressive with a woman, and she says no, and he keeps on doing it. Well, you know what's going to happen. No is no in anything, when it comes to sexual or you know, whatever it is. No is no. And I'm sure Kenny said, 'Hey, get it out of my face, don't do it.' But no, they want the big story, they want the scoop, you know?
This is so offensive I don't even know where to begin. To compare a man doing his job to a sexual assault?

Wells ought to be fined and suspended. Forever.

This is idiocy. Hollandsworth is 0-for-4 lifetime vs. Leiter, with four strikeouts.

Discuss amongst yourselves.
