Open Thread: Cubs vs. Reds, Monday 7/18

New, comments

Eight straight good-to-excellent outings by the starting rotation, beginning with the one thrown by tonight's starter, Jerome Williams, in game two of the DH on July 7 at Atlanta.

Today's Starting Pitchers
Jerome Williams
J. Williams
Cubs
vs. Brandon Claussen
B. Claussen
Reds
1-3 W-L 4-6
4.89 ERA 3.61
25 SO 54
12 BB 24
6 HR 10

Consider this: Claussen's stats are OK, not great.

Two of the other starters scheduled in this series (Luke Hudson, Eric Milton) have ERA's over six. And between the four of them, they have allowed 55 home runs in 58 games started.

Cub hitters, lick your chops. Again, three of four is necessary, and a sweep would solidify contender status.

Stuff: I think I started a trend. JD, my SportsBLOGS colleague at The Red Reporter, picked up on the "Why Are We Here" thread I started last week, and now there's a similar thread over there. Check it out.

And in case you were wondering what goes on at Wrigley Field when the Cubs are on the road... well, Mike has an idea...
