Open Thread: Cubs vs. Giants, Monday 7/25

New, comments

This is not your father's Giants team. In fact, it's not even last year's team -- there are several new starters, including ex-Cub Moises Alou, who's having a fine year. He's about the only one, though. The Giants are 13 games under .500.

That doesn't make them dangerous. On the usual "paper", this appears to be a mismatch, with Rich Hill making his first major league start. He'll be opposed by Jason Schmidt. The last time Schmidt threw in Wrigley Field, he threw a one-hit shutout on May 18, 2004, the only hit being an infield single by Michael Barrett. That was the same night Randy Johnson threw a perfect game for Arizona against Atlanta.

This isn't last year's Schmidt either -- his velocity is reportedly down, although he struck out ten in his last start.

It's time the Cubs started playing well at home.

Doesn't that photo of Schmidt make him look like Rick Reuschel with facial hair?

And, as I'll be at the ballpark, someone please post the lineups in the comments when they're announced.

Discuss amongst yourselves.
