Open Thread: Cubs vs. Braves, Wednesday 7/6

New, comments

I'm going to try a bit of reverse psychology here.

John Smoltz absolutely kills the Cubs -- 15-4 lifetime with a 2.83 ERA and 166 K's in 189 IP, and a career's worth of games like this one. We have no chance, especially with Mark Prior, 0-2 lifetime with a 6.35 ERA against the Braves.

There. Think that's good enough backward karma?

That is, if they even get the game in tonight. The forecast calls for heavy rain, the remnants of Tropical Storm Cindy.

Mike e-mailed me some thoughts on the season so far this morning:

You know, this season may have its uses. You have a Cub team that needs to be at least half rebuilt. You have a Sox team that looks like it can't lose, and may be in position to dominate their division for years. If that can't inspire a little north side corporate desperation, I don't know what can. Also, it has always worked out that when one team succeeds, the other follows in short order.
