Open Thread: Cubs vs. Braves, Wednesday 8/24

On another one of those short-turnaround games, big news!

Sosa returns to Wrigley Field!

Today's Starting Pitchers
Mark Prior
M. Prior
Cubs
vs. Jorge Sosa
J. Sosa
Braves
9-4 W-L 8-2
3.66 ERA 2.63
140 SO 64
41 BB 45
21 HR 10

OK, so it's Jorge Sosa. He has not faced the Cubs in his major league career. He takes the start that was to have been Mike Hampton's; Hampton was placed on the DL yesterday with back problems.

There have been three other major leaguers with the last name Sosa, apart from Jorge and Sammy, two of them relief pitchers from the 1970's: Elias Sosa, a tall, skinny righthander who was an effective reliever for a decade or so, and Jose Sosa, who pitched in 34 games for the Astros in 1975 and 1976. Juan Sosa, the third, was a utility player for the Rockies and Diamondbacks in 1999 and 2001.

Why do I mention this? Because I really didn't want to say that Mark Prior has an 0-3 lifetime record with a 7.88 ERA in three career starts against the Braves.

Discuss amongst yourselves.
