Open Thread: Cubs vs. Dodgers, Wednesday 8/31

This afternoon, the Cubs will attempt to win their first series in two weeks.

Today's Starting Pitchers
Glendon Rusch
G. Rusch
Cubs
vs. Derek Lowe
D. Lowe
Dodgers
5-7 W-L 8-13
4.35 ERA 4.11
89 SO 115
45 BB 41
10 HR 26

Many of us, myself included, were clamoring for Rusch to be put back in the rotation after he was switched to the bullpen. He's been pretty awful since then -- one decent start in Colorado which the Cubs lost anyway, and two bad ones.

One year after being a World Series hero, Derek Lowe is wallowing under .500 with a bad Dodger team. Think he might wish he were still with the Red Sox?

The Cubs beat him up pretty good in Los Angeles in June, his only career appearance vs. the Cubs. Check out that boxscore -- five players who played for the Cubs that day aren't with the team any more (Wilson, Dubois, Hollandsworth, Borowski, Koronka).

Look for Neifi to get a start today, because he was 4-for-5 that day with a home run, and two of his three other career AB's vs. Lowe have also resulted in home runs (4-for-8 lifetime with three homers).

Finally, please welcome another new member of the SB Nation family, Talking Chop, the Atlanta Braves site.

Discuss amongst yourselves.
