Open Thread: Cubs vs. Cardinals, Sunday 9/18

The Cubs and Cardinals trot out their best pitchers for the final matchup of the two clubs this season.

Today's Starting Pitchers
Carlos Zambrano
C. Zambrano
Cubs
vs. Chris Carpenter
C. Carpenter
Cardinals
13-5 W-L 21-4
3.22 ERA 2.31
189 SO 201
81 BB 46
17 HR 16

Carpenter has thrown nine innings three times (two CG's) against the Cubs this year, allowing 0, 1 and 2 runs respectively, for a 1.00 ERA in 27 IP, with only three walks (gee, what a surprise). He's only 2-0 in those three games, because the Cubs won the other one in extra innings. He hasn't lost a game since June 8.

Z is 2-0 vs. the Cardinals this year, allowing only two runs in 23.2 IP, with only two walks; that's an 0.76 ERA.

Baseball being what it is, that means today's game will probably be a 12-11 blowout.

Discuss amongst yourselves.
