Open Thread: Cubs vs. Brewers, Thursday 9/22

Got a call from the dealership where I ordered my Prius, saying it would be in sometime around October 1. Since the deposit I put down is refundable, I'm going to do some comparison shopping this afternoon.

Sort of keeping my mind off how bad the Cubs have sucked in this series.

Today's Starting Pitchers
Greg Maddux
G. Maddux
Cubs
vs. Rick Helling
R. Helling
Brewers
12-13 W-L 2-0
4.31 ERA 2.19
124 SO 29
34 BB 15
26 HR 1

You all know what Maddux has to do to keep his 15-victory-season streak intact, and it's been hinted that someone else (Rich Hill) might start in his place next week against Pittsburgh if he doesn't win today. Just as important as that streak is another one: he's had seventeen straight winning seasons. He'll need to go 2-0 or 3-0 to retain that.

About Helling, I paraphrase old-time NY Giants manager Bill Terry, who once disparaged the rival Dodgers in this sort of way: "Is Helling still in the league?"

Maybe I shouldn't do that, as the remark came back to bite Terry and the Giants, but I'll try anything. Helling's been around forever, but has faced the Cubs only five times (three starts), 1-0 with a 1.54 ERA.

Discuss amongst yourselves.
