Open Thread: Cubs vs. Pirates, Wednesday 9/28

It's the final home game of the 2005 season, and the final game we'll ever spend in the Wrigley Field bleachers, as they have existed for sixty-eight years:

Today's Starting Pitchers
Mark Prior
M. Prior
Cubs
vs. Paul Maholm
P. Maholm
Pirates
11-6 W-L 2-1
3.73 ERA 2.08
181 SO 22
55 BB 16
24 HR 1

Prior has never lost to the Pirates; he's 6-0 with a 2.48 ERA in 10 starts.

Maholm is yet another one of those kids who we've never seen before -- usually, that's the kiss of death on the Cubs. He walks a lot of hitters -- 16 in 34 IP so far -- not that that usually makes any difference for Cub hitters.

And it's even more so that way when I point these sorts of things out. But what the hey, it's the last home game of the season. Let's go out there and beat the living daylights out of 'em.

One last note about last night's game. The Cubs have two of the best fielders in the game at their respective positions, Derrek Lee and Greg Maddux. What would the odds have been that both of them would make an error (Lee's 6th, Maddux' 3rd of the year) in the same game? But there it was.

Discuss amongst yourselves.
