Spring Is In The Air!

Well, almost. It's partly sunny in Chicago and 35 degrees today -- we've had worse Opening Day weather, for sure.

The Cubs announced their spring training roster today; in addition to the 40-man roster and the three players (Augie Ojeda, Marquis Grissom and Michael Restovich) already given non-roster invites, the following non-rostered players were also given spring training invitations:

pitchers Bobby Brownlie, Carmen Pignatiello, Raul Valdez and Randy Wells; catchers Dennis Anderson and Jake Fox; infielders Casey McGehee and Brandon Sing and outfielders Buck Coats and Adam Greenberg.

Of those ten, none of them have any realistic chance of making the final roster leaving camp, and among them only Pignatiello, Sing, Coats and Greenberg could be considered "prospects" in any shape or form.

I'm guessing that Brownlie's getting an invite so he can be showcased for a possible trade during camp.
