Be Afraid. Be Very Afraid.

Today, Bruce Miles writes of the possibility of Lou Piniella as manager:

Although former Cubs catcher Joe Girardi impressed the Cubs with Monday's interview, Hendry appears to be leaning toward Piniella, in part because of his winning track record and partly because Hendry sees Piniella as a manager who can help the Cubs win in a hurry.

Ugh. There's so much wrong with that thinking I can't even begin to enumerate the reasons. Please, Jim. Think outside this narrowly constructed box you've made for yourself.

Girardi's the right choice. Piniella's the wrong one. It really is that simple.

One more note for this morning: the folks at Cubscast, who do many cool Cub-related podcasts, have an interview with TV play-by-play announcer Len Kasper posted at their site. Well worth checking out.
