I've always believed that the fourth game of any seven-game series was the pivotal one.
If the series is 3-0, that's pretty obvious. But if it's 2-1, as the NLCS is, you have two scenarios: either it becomes 3-1 and that is, based on history, nearly an insurmountable lead, or it's tied 2-2 and thus becomes, in effect, a three-game series.
