The Cubs picked a project: Josh Hamilton, former #1 pick of the Devil Rays, who has been suspended multiple times for violating MLB's drug policy. He is now 24.
In the first round, three Cubs were chosen by other clubs: LHP Edward Campusano, by the Brewers; RHP Lincoln Holdzkom (acquired last year in the Todd Wellemeyer trade), by the Astros; and IF Jason Smith, by the Blue Jays.
None of these are great losses (or a great acquisition, for that matter), and I am glad the Cubs didn't lose Carmen Pignatiello, who was available, and who had a good season in the Arizona Fall League, perhaps putting him back on the "prospect" radar.
