Open Thread: Cubs vs. Marlins, Monday 4/24, 6:05 CT

Note carefully! This game starts at SIX OH FIVE Central time, an hour earlier than most Cub home night games.

The unfathomable reason for this is that the poohbahs at ESPN have decided that this game is worthy of national television. That means, that since it's also on WCIU locally, everyone gets to see it -- except, as discussed in this diary, for those in certain parts of Illinois within the "Cub TV blackout area", but outside of WCIU's on-air signal.

And, it's a good thing that the game starts an hour early -- because with the number of walks these two pitchers have issued so far, it might take 3 1/2 hours. Time for Z to step up. Vargas has a win, but his other two starts were pretty bad. His one career start against the Cubs last year resulted in a Marlins win, though he didn't pitch all that well. Note that in that game, Juan Pierre singled, reached on a HBP and an error (by Nomar, in his first 3B game), stole two bases and scored three runs.

It'd be nice for him to repeat such a performance tonight.

Discuss amongst yourselves.
