Open Thread: Cubs vs. Padres, Sunday 5/14, 1:20 CT

Have a look at the grins on these guys. What do either of them have to smile about?

Today's Starting Pitchers
Rich Hill
R. Hill
Cubs
vs. Clay Hensley
C. Hensley
Padres
0-2 W-L 1-2
9.00 ERA 4.73
5 SO 22
5 BB 19
3 HR 3
vs. SD -- vs. Cubs

Hill hasn't pitched well this year in his two starts. Hensley's walked at least three in each of his last five appearances.

I confess that the only thing I know about Hensley is that he appeared earlier in this series as a pinch-runner, when Woody Williams left Friday's game with a hamstring pull. He has never pitched against the Cubs.

Hill's experience against anyone on the Padres consists of facing the two former Mets on the team -- Mike Cameron (a two-run single in 2 AB) and Mike Piazza (a walk). That was in this game, the worst start of Hill's career.

Kerry Wood is now scheduled to return Thursday instead of Wednesday. That would likely mean that Carlos Zambrano would pitch on Tuesday and Sean Marshall on Wednesday, to take advantage of the off-day Monday. You think things are bad for the Cubs? The Nationals, coming in here Tuesday, gave up five runs in the last of the ninth yesterday in Atlanta.

Discuss amongst yourselves.
