Open Thread: Cubs vs. Marlins, Wednesday 5/24, 12:05 CT

Imagine this scenario:

You've just had the worst day you've ever had at work, whatever that would entail. All you want to do is go hide your head in the sand, or in some form of forgetfulness, and not go back for a while.

And instead, you've got to get a fitful, short night's sleep in a hotel room, and report back for work less than twelve hours after you left.

That pretty much describes what faces the Cubs this afternoon.

Today's Starting Pitchers
Greg Maddux
G. Maddux
Cubs
vs. Brian Moehler
B. Moehler
Marlins
5-3 W-L 1-4
3.76 ERA 7.29
37 SO 18
14 BB 13
4 HR 8
vs. Fla -- vs. Cubs
Another way of seeing how young this Marlins team is: Maddux has made 37 lifetime starts against them (19-11, 2.72). Yet, the only current Marlin who has more than three lifetime AB's against him is Miguel Cabrera (4-for-13, two doubles, a HR).

I've given up predicting that the Cubs ought to hit guys with ERA's orbiting the moon like Moehler's is. Jacque Jones (4-for-11, two doubles) and Todd Walker (7-for-18, two HR) have hit him pretty well in the past.

Finally, maybe some changes are coming. The hint is in the Cub media notes for this afternoon -- not for today's game, but in the box noting pitching matchups for the Atlanta series. Sunday is listed as "TBD vs. TBD".

That'd be Kerry Wood's turn, as that'd be five days' rest.

Discuss amongst yourselves.
