Here we go again. Marmol is the fourth Cub pitcher to be making his first major league start this season (Ryu, Guzman, Marshall are the others), and we're not even at the halfway mark yet. He will also become the tenth different pitcher to start a game for the Cubs this year.
The last Cub team that I could find that had four rookie pitchers making their first major league starts was the 1966 club, which had debut starts from Fergie Jenkins, Ken Holtzman, Rich Nye and someone named Dave Dowling, who made only one other major league appearance, for the 1964 Cardinals. That one game, incidentally, was a CG, 10-hit, 7-2 win over the Reds on September 22, 1966, with the Cubs dead last, 34 games out of first place.
Let us hope for a better career for today's debuter. Note that like Marmol, all of the above-named 1966 pitchers (except for Nye) had made relief appearances before their first starts.

Time to change all that and win this series as the Cubs attempt to break the WGN Jinx (18 straight WGN-televised losses).
Discuss amongst yourselves.
