Open Thread: Cubs vs. Indians, Wednesday 6/21, 6:05 CT

Once upon a time, this pitching matchup might have been attractive enough to get ESPN interested in a game that didn't involve their pet Yankees or Red Sox.

Instead, it's just another ballgame. Merry Solstice.

Today's Starting Pitchers
Carlos Zambrano
C. Zambrano
vs. C. C. Sabathia
C. Sabathia
5-3 W-L 5-3
2.82 ERA 3.08
102 SO 62
57 BB 18
11 HR 7
vs. Cle -- vs. Cubs
Z has, after a slow start, become one of the hottest pitchers in the game, leading the NL in strikeouts (OK, in walks, too), and is now fourth in the NL in ERA.

Sabathia got pummeled on Opening Day vs. the White Sox and then went on the DL and missed a month. He came back, won five of six, but has now lost three in a row and given up a ton of runs in two of those.

Again, neither pitcher has faced many hitters from the opponent tonight, fairly typical for an interleague game. It won't mean much, but the Cubs do have a chance to win another series.

Discuss amongst yourselves.
