Open Thread: Cubs vs. Brewers, Monday 6/26, 7:05 CT

New, comments

I will not attend tonight's game.

No, I haven't quit, and I'm not boycotting. I am in New York for one of my every-other-month Directors Guild of America meetings, this time on a Monday night instead of a Saturday.

Also, after this morning's post I think we all need some baseball to discuss, don't we?

Today's Starting Pitchers
Greg Maddux
G. Maddux
Cubs
vs. Chris Capuano
C. Capuano
Brewers
7-7 W-L 8-4
4.83 ERA 3.33
49 SO 101
19 BB 23
8 HR 10
vs. Mil -- vs. Cubs
Dusty Baker, who defended his 2006 performance yesterday (passed along without further comment), is likely to start Phil Nevin in LF today.

While it's a good idea to get Nevin in the lineup, because I think he could be of interest to other teams in trade, that means Matt Murton, who does hit lefties well, will be on the bench. Murton is 0-for-2 lifetime vs. Capuano; Nevin is 2-for-2 with a HR; Jacque Jones is 0-for 6.

The Cubs' May slide began when the Brewers were in town at the end of April. It'd be nice to play well against them. Plus, this year's Cubs have been about the worst team I've ever seen in terms of playing well at home -- 12-20 at home. Time to change that, too.

On Maddux: when he records his seventh out of this game (2.1 IP), he will reach 4500 career IP, the 26th pitcher to do so. Three further outs will put him past Fergie Jenkins on the all-time list.

Discuss amongst yourselves.
