This is the Cubs' only Thursday night home game of 2006, and the pitching matchup is quite intriguing.

Today's Starting Pitchers
Rich Hill
R. Hill
vs. Jeff Weaver
J. Weaver
0-4 W-L 4-11
9.31 ERA 6.32
11 SO 64
15 BB 25
5 HR 20
vs. StL -- vs. Cubs

Here's the guy who a lot of you have been clamoring to see, because of his gaudy Triple-A stats (7-1, 1.80 ERA in 15 starts, 100 IP, 21 BB, 135 K), while some of us look at the unsightly major league ERA both this year (above) and last year (9.13) and the walks (32 in 43 major league innings) and figure he's never going to make it. Now, he's going to get his chance. I had forgotten that his last major league appearance was in the Pierzynski/Barrett Brawl Game, which the Cubs lost 7-0. In fact, the Cubs have been outscored 28-1 in Hill's four major league starts this year.

Opposing him is a guy who a lot of Cub fans (not me, though) thought the Cubs should have signed in the offseason. Oh, how they'd all be screaming at Jim Hendry now if he'd done so -- he's been awful all year, although he threw fairly well in his last start against the Dodgers. I imagine for Weaver, who's a bit of a headcase, that might have been the "Something To Prove vs. Your Old Team" start.

Discuss amongst yourselves.
