Open Thread: Cubs vs. Cardinals, Saturday 7/29, 3:05 CT

An Illinois appellate court ruled yesterday that the Cubs did not violate the law when they created their own ticket brokerage and sold tickets directly to it.

I am not a lawyer, but I think this ruling is amazingly wrongheaded. An actual lawyer agrees with me:

"Everybody else seems to think this thing was misleading and deceptive except the judges who looked at it," said attorney Paul Bauch, who helped represent fans Peter Cavoto and Gerald Carr Jr.

"It's the old saying about leaving our common sense at the door."

I suspect that eventually, the marketplace will put Premium Ticket Services out of business, or perhaps this case will wind up in federal court where it belonged in the first place.

Now, on to baseball!

Mark my words: today will NOT be Greg Maddux' last start in a Cub uniform. I do not believe he will be traded.

Anthony Reyes, one of the Cardinals' top pitching prospects, has not thrown as well in eight starts this year as he did in his four brief appearances (one start) for St. Louis in 2005.

Today's game is on Fox-TV, which means that the cities (about 24% of the country) in which you can watch it are determined by this Fox executive:
