Revisiting A Day In The Life Of Ryan O'Malley

Yesterday's game was a remarkable and memorable game in Cub history, even given that it will have little impact on any pennant races. How often do you see a pitcher called up in such circumstances and perform brilliantly, as Ryan O'Malley did? Not often, that's for sure, maybe not ever, if you're talking about the Cubs.

Given that, I thought I'd post these 12 pictures that BCB reader Terry Harr took, and emailed to me, as a remembrance of what might be the best day of Ryan O'Malley's baseball career. We can hope for more good things from him, but if they never happen, he, and we, will always have August 16, 2006, an extraordinary day in Cub history.

Top: 1st inning conference between O'Malley and Michael Barrett; O'Malley pitches after conference; End of first inning; O'Malley and ARam play catch
Middle: A seldom seen sighting of Ryan Theriot; "End around" play executed by Theriot and Phil Nevin; "Ebony & Ivory" DP combination "looking to the sky"; Obligatory Orange Guy photo
Bottom: The end is near; The final pitch; The final out; Cubs win! Cubs win!
