Open Thread: Cubs vs. Phillies, Wednesday 8/23, 7:05 CT

Here's a little secret about Angel Guzman. He is the best I have ever seen at standing behind the bullpen catcher to stop stray balls from getting away.

No, really, he is. It was his job for two weeks when he was on the active roster in late June and never got into a game. He did it so well that he's been doing it again since he was recalled. And he does it so well -- standing there like a sentry, never failing, never budging.

I'm being facetious, of course. Today, Guzman will start for the first time in 11 days, still looking for his first major league win.

Today's Starting Pitchers
Angel Guzman
A. Guzman
Cubs
vs. Brett Myers
B. Myers
Phillies
0-3 W-L 8-6
6.68 ERA 4.40
33 SO 130
23 BB 48
3 HR 23
vs. Phi -- vs. Cubs
The Cubs play the Phillies so seldom these days, I don't really have a recollection of this -- but Myers actually has five career starts against the Cubs; 3-2, 3.03 ERA in those starts.

Player to watch tonight: Juan Pierre, who is 13-for-34 lifetime (.382) vs. Myers, and who is also on a current 14-game hitting streak (.358, 24-for-67).
