Open Thread: Cubs vs. Padres, Friday 6/15, 1:20 CT

Here's one thing we can be almost 100% certain of -- Ted Lilly will last longer in today's game than he did in his last start.

Right?

Both of today's starting pitchers are well-traveled -- so much so that they were teammates on the 2002 Yankees. Both also pitched for the Blue Jays at various times (Wells, 1987-92 and 1999-2000; Lilly, 2004-2006).

4-4 W-L 3-3
3.96 ERA 4.76

vs. SD -- vs. Cubs
To continue the above comparisons in more detail, Lilly is 2-0 in three games (two starts) vs. the Padres, but has not faced them in almost exactly three years -- since June 18, 2004 -- when, oddly enough, his opposing starting pitcher was... David Wells.

Wells beat the Cubs in San Diego three weeks ago, when Sean Marshall's only mistake was a two-run HR served to Kevin Kouzmanoff.

Interesting note for the day: Astros shortstop Adam Everett fractured his fibula yesterday in a collision with Carlos Lee. Think we could get them interested in Cesar Izturis? Their other option is to play Mark Loretta at SS and the .217-hitting Morgan Ensberg at 3B.

Finally, long-time Cub tormentor, umpire Bruce Froemming, will retire after this season.

According to the Padres website there is no local San Diego area TV for today's game. Thus, since it's on CSN today, your only option is EI or the Mediacenter.
