Open Thread: Cubs vs. White Sox, Sunday 6/24, 1:05 CT

Writing anything but the following could be the kiss of death, so this post is going to be short and sweet: this afternoon, when it appears it will have finally stopped raining here in Chicago, the Cubs will face the White Sox for the final time in 2007.

Today's Starting Pitchers
Sean Marshall
S. Marshall
Cubs
vs. Jose Contreras
J. Contreras
White Sox
3-2 W-L 5-7
2.84 ERA 4.81
31 SO 49
10 BB 32
6 HR 5
vs. Sox -- vs. Cubs
Sean Marshall's only career start vs. the White Sox was last June 30 at Wrigley Field. He wasn't very good. He wasn't very good in his last start this year against the Rangers, either, his first bad outing after five very good ones.

Jose Contreras is officially 35 years old. There have been rumors that he's quite a bit older than that, and this year, he's been pitching that way -- he's got his highest ERA in three years, his K levels are way down, and since his shutout of the Twins on May 10, he's 2-4 with a 5.79 ERA in seven starts. The just-returned Aramis Ramirez has eight career PA vs. Contreras -- a walk and 3 HR and 6 RBI and this gaudy line: .429/.556/1.714.

Today, the Cubs announcers return to WGN; the Sox telecast is on CSN; and other choices are at the Mediacenter.
