Open Thread: Cubs vs. Braves, Sunday 6/3, 1:20 CT

At last, a break. Maybe.

John Smoltz, who has beaten the Cubs like the proverbial drum for years (15-5, 3.33, 8 saves lifetime), had his scheduled start today pushed back to Tuesday -- which means he should start against the Cubs next Sunday in Atlanta.

But for today, it's Lance Cormier. I think I'd rather face a guy with a 12-12, 5.72 career mark coming off a rehab assignment than a future Hall of Famer. Wouldn't you?

I also expect Felix Pie to be recalled to -- presumably -- start today's game.

Sean Marshall, who has thrown well in both of his starts since his recall, has nothing to show for it except that 0-2 record. He has never faced the Braves. Cormier is 2-0 in three career appearances (1 start) vs. the Cubs. Yes, that's correct, despite this statement in the Yahoo preview of the game:
He gave up one run in seven innings of a 2-1 home win over the Cubs on Sept. 10 in his first-ever appearance against them.
Nope. That 2006 game was Cormier's first start against the Cubs, but he also has made two relief appearances, on May 28, 2006, the game the Braves won when a popup hit Aramis Ramirez in the head, and July 30, 2005, when he was with the Diamondbacks. Cormier got the win in that game.

That preview was written by "MIKE VOTTA, STATS Senior Writer". Glad he bothered to check facts that took me about two minutes of baseball-reference.com mouse clicks to find.

MLB.com Mediacenter -- although, if being nationally televised on WGN wasn't bad enough yesterday, today's game is on BOTH WGN and TBS.
