Open Thread: Cubs vs. Astros Diamondbacks, Friday 7/20, 1:20 CT

You think I'm joking with the title of this post, but seriously, look at the photo below. Is this an Astro or a Diamondback?

It's a Diamondback. (Exactly who, I'm not sure. Maybe my fellow SB Nation blogger Jim McLennan from AZ Snakepit can identify this mystery player.) For some reason, they decided to adopt exactly the same color scheme as the Astros; even their lettering and numbering style is similar.

Anyway, on to more important things -- today's game. The Cubs may be a player or two short with the minor injuries to Daryle Ward and Cliff Floyd. I'd guess that if neither is able to play today, one or both might be finding their way to the DL. Among the possible callups would be Buck Coats and Matt Murton.

vs. Ari -- vs. Cubs
Time for Jason Marquis to step up. I've been one of his biggest supporters, but he's been really bad in his last twelve starts -- 1-4, 5.84. However, since I got my very own Marquis jersey and have worn it to the ballpark three times (all Marquis starts), the Cubs have won all three games (June 25, July 1 and July 15), even though he didn't pitch particularly well in any of them. So I'll wear the jersey again today.

Marquis is 1-3, 2.84 in seven career appearances (six starts) vs. the D'backs. No current D'back has more than 11 career AB's against Marquis. As for Brandon Webb, the Cubs have not defeated him since his rookie year -- August 3, 2003 at Wrigley Field. Only Aramis Ramirez remains from that day's lineup. Ramirez is only 4-for-18 lifetime vs. Webb, although he has homered. Angel Pagan is 2-for-3.

Today's game is on WGN, on cable in Arizona, and at the Mediacenter. Gameday (2007 version) Gameday (2006 version)
