Open Thread: Cubs vs. Brewers, Wednesday 8/29, 7:05 CT

Well! Big-name pitchers, contending teams, one in first place, the other within three games, late August... this game will be nationally covered by ESPN, right?

Oh, right. I forgot. The Eastern Sports Programming Network is covering those other teams. Again.

Thus, we'll have to keep our tight pennant race in the NL Central our own dirty little secret. I mean, who has to know?

Today's Starting Pitchers

vs. Mil -- vs. Cubs
Ben Sheets has faced the Cubs three times this year, losing to Z in Milwaukee on April 7, the famous game after which Z dissed the Brewers' lineup as not being as good as the Reds'; being yanked after three shutout innings at Wrigley Field on April 25, with the first of his injuries this year; and winning the only game the Brewers won in the late-June series at Wrigley Field on June 30, with 11 strikeouts. He's 8-7 lifetime in 21 career starts vs. the Cubs, with a 3.97 ERA. Z is 4-for-10 off Sheets; Derrek Lee is 14-for-41 with 5 HR (.341/.333/.756, and no, that's not a misprint -- the OBA is lower than the BA, which can happen if you have a SF and no walks).

Meanwhile, Z has defeated the Brewers twice this year, both at Miller Park. He's got to step up his game to the level he was showing during the rainout on August 19; no more giving up two-run homers to the opposing pitcher.

Today's game is once again a cable-only telecast in both Chicago and Milwaukee It's also available at the MLB Mediacenter. Gameday (2007 version) Gameday (2006 version) Gameday for today's Reds/Pirates game (6:05 pm CT start time) Gameday for today's Astros/Cardinals game (7:05 pm CT start time)
