As noted in the box above and confirmed in this National Weather Service forecast, there's a chance of thunderstorms this afternoon. In fact, there's a chance of storms each day through Sunday, which will make this weekend's series interesting in terms of dodging the raindrops. Let's hope they hold off until overnight when there's no baseball being played.

Bruce Miles today has a nice feature on Jim Edmonds, who he says is finding his comfort zone now that he's been here a month. I'll say, given that Edmonds is producing.

Current Orioles pitching coach Rick Kranitz, who was a longtime Cub minor league pitching coach, claims he was the one who first had the idea to make Kerry Wood a closer. Whatever you say, Rick.

You may have seen today's Sun-Times with a Cubs logo on the front page. However, the article has more to do with yesterday's announcement that the Tribune Tower may be for sale. It's more about the Sun-Times' current campaign of "tweak the Trib for anything" than anything to do with the Cubs. Read with caution.

If you reversed the name of today's Baltimore starter -- made it "Liz Radhames" -- it sounds like an avant-garde fashion designer. That's about the only thing I can think of to say about Liz, who has been hit pretty hard in his last four starts. He has never faced the Cubs.

Jason Marquis has never faced the Orioles, but a couple of them -- Kevin Millar (5-for-12, .417/.429/.750, a double, a HR) and Jay Payton (5-for-13, .385/.385/.846, 3 doubles, a HR) have hit him pretty hard. Marquis is 5-0, 3.64 in his last seven starts and if he can keep that up the rest of the year, he's a completely serviceable third or fourth starter.

Today's game is on WGN and MASN -- that should put it on EI. Also see the MLB.com Mediacenter.
