The Cubs made a 40-man roster move today:
The Chicago Cubs today selected catcher Robinson Chirinos from Double-A Tennessee and outrighted outfielder Jim Adduci to Triple-A Iowa. Chicago's 40-man roster currently stands at 39 players.
The count of 39 includes John Grabow and Angel Guzman, who are still listed on the 60-day DL. I would guess more of these moves will be made during or after the organizational meetings, which are taking place next week in Mesa.
Chirinos is 26 and hit a combined .326/.416/.583 between Double-A and Triple-A in 2010 with 18 HR and 74 RBI (and only 43 strikeouts) in 319 at-bats. His addition to the 40-man roster likely gives him a good shot at the backup job next year. He'll definitely get more spring training time in 2011.
