Split Squads In Different States: Cubs vs. Brewers at Maryvale, Friday 3/12, 2:05 CT

If you buy something from an SB Nation link, Vox Media may earn a commission. See our ethics statement.

Not only is today a split-squad day, but it's a split-state day. Half the Cubs will take on the Brewers at Milwaukee's Maryvale complex today; the other half is in Las Vegas to play the White Sox tonight. After the jump, some info on how the game threads will work for these two games.

The Arizona Republic reports on how police and firefighters are deployed for safety at spring ballparks, specifically at Goodyear.

Congratulations to the Daily Herald's Bruce Miles, who recently received a top ten award in the AP's Sports Editors national feature writing contest for the profile he wrote last spring on Louis Clarizio, a white player who played in the Negro Leagues in the early 1950's. Clarizio now lives in Schaumburg. If you didn't see that article when it was first published last April, check it out. It's a good read.

And, the photo at the top of this post is from Tuesday, but it's never too late to write a funny caption. Have at it.

Jeff Samardzija will start this game for the Cubs; he'll face a longtime Cubs nemesis, soft-tossing lefty Doug Davis.

Starting lineup via tweet from Carrie:

SS Castro, RF Adduci, 1B Lee, 3B Ramirez, CF Colvin, LF Soriano, 2B Scales, C Hill, P Samardzija

Today's game is on WTMJ -- I always enjoy Bob Uecker, and even if you don't have MLB Audio, that station can be heard in much of the Chicago area. Here's the complete MLB.com Mediacenter for today.

SB Nation game preview

First pitch thread will post at 2 pm CST. An overflow thread will post at 3:15 CST. This preview is ONLY for the day game. I will post a recap of this game when it's over; that will also serve as the preview for tonight's game in Las Vegas vs. the White Sox.

Discuss amongst yourselves.
